Katrina Daniel, R.N.

As Senior Associate Commissioner, Life, Health & Licensing Program for the Texas Department of Insurance, Ms. Daniel oversees the regulation of a wide range of life, annuity, and accident and health insurance products.  Her program also licenses insurance agents and adjusters.  In addition, Ms. Daniel oversees development and approval of workers’ compensation health care networks.  Ms. Daniel and her staff implement state and federal legislation and monitor the extensive federal activities related to life insurance, health coverage, and insurance agents.  She places a high priority on educating regulated entities and other interested parties.

She began her career in health care as a registered nurse in Houston at Ben Taub
General Hospital, one of the nation’s largest and busiest. While completing her Master of Public Health
Degree at the University of Texas, School of Public Health, Daniel came to Austin to work as a
legislative aide for State Representative Garnet F. Coleman, as well as working part time as an
emergency room nurse at University Medical Center Brackenridge (then Brackenridge Hospital) from
1997 until 2002. In Subsequent years she attained a significant deal of public health care experience in
a variety of legislative, planning and public policy development positions with organizations such as the
Texas Department of Health, the Sunset Advisory Commission and the Texas Department of Family and
Protective Services.

Ms. Daniel graduated from Texas Woman’s University School of Nursing with a Baccalaureate in Science and has completed coursework for a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health.  
 

Ms. Daniel also has a history of volunteer and community service with organizations such as the American
Red Cross, the Austin Neighborhoods Council, the Highland Neighborhood Association and the
Residential Design and Compatibility Commission.
