Before coming to Central Health, John worked for the City of Austin for 24 years in a variety of positions and was the Chief Financial Officer from 2000 to 2007, when he retired. During his tenure with the City, John was actively involved in negotiating the original lease of Brackenridge Hospital to Seton and the two amendments to the lease, one of which resulted in the creation of the Austin Women’s Hospital and the other which resulted in the location of the Dell Children’s Hospital at the redeveloped site of the former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport.
John graduated with an MBA from the University of Texas in 1983 and began working for the City of Austin at that time. Prior to that, John had a career in languages and linguistics. He holds advanced degrees in Spanish (UT Arlington) and linguistics (University of Michigan) and taught Spanish and English as a Second Language.
