Residents who do not qualify for full benefits may receive primary care services from the Community Health Centers through a sliding fee scale program that determines cost based on annual income, generally at or below 200% of FPIG.
Community Health Centers
Travis County has a well-developed primary care system that has been in place since the 1970s. The clinics provide outpatient primary healthcare, dental care, behavioral health services, and HIV/AIDS treatment services. Services for individuals with HIV/AIDS are provided at a clinic specifically designed for patients in need of these services, The David Powell Community Health Center. Additionally, there are services specifically for homeless individuals and families delivered at the Salvation Army and at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH).
The system currently serves those up to 200% of the federal poverty income guidelines, with the exception of the David Powell CHC, which serves all persons with HIV/AIDS regardless of income.
The Travis County Healthcare District system has 14 Community Health Centers that serve as the primary medical home for over 45,000 adults and children in Travis County. These clinics are all Federally Qualified Health Centers, a designation by the federal government for clinics serving uninsured and underinsured individuals.
These are some of the web addresses which will provide more information about the Community Health Centers and will take you to the websites of our partner, the City of Austin Community Care Services Department, which operates and manages the Community Health Centers.
