Edward Gomez, formerly the executive director of El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission, was recently
hired as Community Relations Manager for the Travis County Healthcare District. This is a newly
established position for the District intended to expand the organization’s community presence.
In this new position, Gomez serves as the community representative for both the District and the
affiliated CommUnityCare system of Federally Qualified Health Centers, and will head development of
all community relations programs. In addition to individuals and community organizations, Gomez also
works in collaboration with insurers, community coalitions and other stakeholders to further increase
access to quality health care for all eligible residents of Travis County.
As executive director of El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission, an Austin healthcare non-profit
organization that serves a population similar to that of the District’s, Gomez was responsible for
community and media relations, among a host of other duties. In his six-year tenure he oversaw the
expansion of client services by 138 percent and expansion of its operating budget from $1.5 million to
$4.1 million.
“I’m truly proud to become part of this organization. My goal is to reach out to the community and
assist the District in expanding its community relationships as it strives to provide increased access to
health care,” Gomez said.
With his established rapport with the community at large and experience with healthcare issues of the
uninsured and underinsured, Gomez is an invaluable new addition to the District to help further its
vision of Central Texas as a model healthy community.
