Healthcare District's FY10 Budget Receives Approval

The Travis County Healthcare District’s Budget, which includes a property tax rate reduction for Travis
County taxpayers, was given final approval by the Travis County Commissioners Court on Tuesday,
Sept. 22. The District’s board previously approved the budget on Sept. 10.


This year’s budget includes a property tax rate reduction to .0674 cents per $100 of property valuation,
down from .0679 in 2009. The is the fourth consecutive year the District has lowered its property tax
rate – an increase to the tax rate has never been proposed since the District’s creation in 2004. The
total approved budget is $98,027,945.


The vast majority of the total budget, approximately 88 percent, will be spent on the provision of
health care for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Travis County. It is anticipated that more
than $5 million in additional healthcare services will be delivered in FY10 as compared to the previous
year. Enrollment for the Medical Assistance Program will increase to approximately 17,000 monthly
enrollees, from 15,000 in FY09. Additional funds will also provide for the creation of $3.1 million in new
primary contracts with new providers and $500,000 in contracts for dental services. Mental health
funding of $5.2 million and continued expansion of specialty care services are also included.
The District’s2010 fiscal year begins Oct. 1, 2009.
